Natural sculptures by Andy Goldsworth

“Andy Goldsworthy is an extraordinary, innovative British artist whose collaborations with nature produce uniquely personal and intense artworks. Using a seemingly endless range of natural materials—snow, ice, leaves, bark, rock, clay, stones, feathers petals, twigs—he creates outdoor sculpture that manifests, however fleeting, a sympathetic contact with the natural world. Before they disappear, or as they disappear, Goldsworthy, records his work in superb colour photographs.”

The Harvest Moon is seen rising in the sky above the domes of the Smolny Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia on Sept. 8, 2014, marking the third and final “supermoon” of 2014. The phenomenon, which scientists call a “perigee moon,” occurs when the moon is near the horizon and appears larger and brighter than other full moons.

A stream in Tomtor, Russia, that never freezes because of the hot springs. The vapor, coming out continuously, freezes instantly over the trees all around, creating very bizarre shapes. Томтор, as it’s called in Russian, is a small town situated inside the Pole of the Cold, the world’s coldest inhabited place, where the January’s average temperature is -50°C

Ren Hang: Anatomy of the image

Artist on Tumblr

The revelation of early 2014, Ren Hang is a provocative young  Chinese “photographer and poet”  who explores the possibilities of the body with an uninhibited body and a playful, stylized shamelessness. Condemned by the Chinese intelligentsia, his work has garnered international acclaim at exhibitions around the world. In 2010, he received the Terna Prize for Contemporary Art.

Hin Chua - After the Fall (2009)

Artist’s statement:

"For me, these images explore the unpredictable, often disturbing results of the collisions that are gradually and chaotically reshaping the spaces around us. These silent hand-overs, the transformations of one environment into another, may speak to something deeper within our collective memories: the loss of places we once knew, an inexorable reminder of the inevitability of change. A farewell to personal Edens."
